Cardiff has announced a significant addition to their squad with the signing of Josh McNally, a lock who has represented England once, from Bath.
The 33-year-old, who serves as a sergeant in the Royal Air Force, joins Cardiff after a successful five-year stint with the English Premiership club.
McNally’s rugby journey began in 2012 at Henley Hawks, followed by stints at London Welsh and London Irish before his time at Bath.
Expressing his excitement about joining Cardiff, McNally mentioned his connection to Wales through his wife’s family and his admiration for the country’s rugby passion. He expressed gratitude to the Royal Air Force for their unwavering support throughout his career, which has now afforded him the opportunity to embrace Welsh rugby in the capital.
While the specifics of McNally’s contract with Cardiff remain undisclosed, his experience and skills are expected to bolster the team’s pack significantly.
A versatile player, McNally earned a call-up to the England squad in 2021 and made his international debut against the United States that same year.
Cardiff’s head coach, Matt Sherratt, emphasized the importance of bringing in players with leadership qualities and experience from top-tier environments, especially with the departure of several key figures in recent seasons. Sherratt praised McNally for his contributions both on and off the field during his tenure at Bath, with former coaches and teammates speaking highly of his character and abilities.
