The Warriors’ coach Andrew Webster admitted it was difficult to choose his team for Friday night’s season opener against the Sharks, but he’s proud of what they’ve accomplished.
The halves pairing of Luke Metcalf and Shaun Johnson is set, with Metcalf’s bulked up presence and attitude giving him the nod. Webster has been impressed by his defensive skills, which he developed during his time at the Sharks.
Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tavita were tough choices, but Metcalf’s performance stood out. Webster’s selections for the rest of the side were based on performance, with players vying for spots on the bench.
The Warriors are aware of the Sharks’ strength, and both squads might be a little rusty in their first games of the season.
