Mobile games based on the popular franchises Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher may potentially be in the works for the future, but with a twist – they won’t be developed by CD Projekt itself.

In a recent Q&A session during CD Projekt’s 2023 Fiscal Year earnings call, it was hinted that the studio is exploring the option of licensing its intellectual properties to third-party developers for mobile game adaptations. CEO Michał Nowakowski acknowledged this possibility, stating that while discussions have been ongoing, there are no concrete announcements at the moment.

Addressing inquiries about the nature of potential licensing agreements, Nowakowski remained tight-lipped, emphasizing that no specific deals have been finalized. He assured stakeholders that CD Projekt would share further details if any developments were to occur down the line.

Despite Cyberpunk 2077 not having a mobile game yet, The Witcher franchise has ventured into the realm of mobile gaming with titles like Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. However, support for the game ceased in October 2023. Another mobile game inspired by The Witcher universe, The Witcher: Monster Slayer, met a similar fate, shutting down after a brief stint in 2023.

While fans eagerly await The Witcher 4, CD Projekt’s upcoming project, the studio has confirmed that production for the game will kick off this year, marking the start of a new trilogy within The Witcher series. With a significant portion of the studio dedicated to this venture, a smaller team continues to provide support for Cyberpunk 2077, and another group is focused on its successor, tentatively named Project Orion. As CD Projekt delves further into expanding its iconic franchises, the future holds promise for mobile gamers looking to immerse themselves in these beloved worlds.
