In a thrilling announcement for fans of speculative storytelling, the unnerving sci-fi anthology series, Black Mirror, is set to make its comeback with fresh episodes on Netflix in 2025. Series creator Charlie Brooker has crafted six intriguing new installments for what will be the seventh season.
Details about the upcoming episodes are shrouded in secrecy, but it’s confirmed that one will serve as a sequel to the acclaimed “USS Callister” episode. This particular installment, infused with Star Trek motifs, showcased Jesse Plemons in the role of a video game programmer who constructs a narrative that spirals into an unsettling reality.
As for whether Plemons will reprise his role, that remains unclear. Black Mirror has become renowned for featuring a plethora of high-profile actors. Over the years, the series has welcomed talents such as Bryce Dallas Howard, Jon Hamm, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Daniel Kaluuya, Josh Hartnett, Miley Cyrus, and Wyatt Russell among its star-studded ensemble.
While six episodes might seem modest, they typically exceed one hour in length. For instance, the Season 3 episode “Hated In The Nation” clocked in at an impressive 89 minutes, marking it as the longest episode in the show’s history.

Having acquired exclusive rights to Black Mirror, Netflix continues to be the sole platform for its release, with the latest season, Season 6, debuting in June 2023. Alongside the regular episodes, Netflix also introduced an interactive experience titled Bandersnatch, allowing viewers the unique opportunity to influence the unfolding story through their choices.
The announcement of Season 7 doesn’t come as a shock to those following the series. Back in 2023, Variety reported that Netflix had confirmed an additional season, welcoming Brooker back to the helm.
In light of the growing prominence of artificial intelligence, many fans are left pondering whether a future Black Mirror episode might explore this theme. While it’s uncertain, it’s worth noting that Brooker did attempt to pen an entire episode using ChatGPT, only to remark that the experience was less than satisfactory.
