In a momentous acknowledgment of its profound contributions, Power Community Limited (PCL), the not-for-profit organization associated with Port Adelaide, has garnered recognition at the 2024 Governor’s Multicultural Awards for its remarkable impact on the youth of South Australia.
These annual awards serve as a platform to honor and celebrate individuals and organizations that champion multiculturalism, enhancing the understanding of the invaluable advantages that cultural diversity brings to our society.
PCL’s innovative Multicultural Power Cup program clinched the prestigious Community Sector Award, a title that shines a spotlight on not-for-profits dedicated to promoting multiculturalism and fostering community harmony and inclusion.
Launched in 2018, the Multicultural Power Cup initiative has reached an impressive milestone, engaging over 5,000 young secondary school students hailing from culturally diverse backgrounds throughout South Australia.
The program’s curriculum is meticulously crafted to incorporate the energies of AFL and AFLW players, making the celebration of cultural diversity and expression both impactful and engaging. It emphasizes inclusion, builds social cohesion, and enhances students’ confidence by nurturing their personal identities.
To further amplify the program’s outcomes and bolster a community-led approach, PCL has formed the Multicultural Power Cup advisory committee. This proactive move aims to deepen the program’s effects across various communities in South Australia.
Expressing pride in receiving this honor, Jake Battifuoco, General Manager of Power Community Limited, highlighted the collective effort that contributed to this achievement.
“We are incredibly proud to be awarded the Community Sector Award at the 2024 Governor’s Multicultural Awards,” Mr. Battifuoco stated. “I extend my gratitude to Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, for this esteemed recognition. My thanks also go to our program partners, as well as the dedicated school teachers and students participating throughout the state.”
The Multicultural Power Cup stands as a vital initiative for Power Community. Last year alone, the program successfully engaged over 400 students representing more than 52 countries.
“We understand that sport transcends boundaries and serves as a universal language. Through our program, we connect, inspire, and cultivate a robust sense of community among the diverse cultural groups across South Australia,” he added. “We eagerly anticipate building upon the program’s successes this year, with plans to expand into Whyalla for the first time.”
